While Red Sox fans are desperately hoping for a miracle that would bring Juan Soto to Boston, the star outfielder isn't the only slugger the team can target on the market. If free agency isn't fruitful, the Red Sox can look at the trade market to add more talent to a team that missed the postseason for three years in a row.

One of the biggest stars on the trade market right now is the St.Louis Cardinals' third baseman, Nolan Arenado. As the Cardinals start a rebuild and look to get younger, they are looking to part ways with the eight-time All-Star who will turn 34 before the start of next season.

Last season with the Cardinals, Arenado slashed .272/.325/.394 with 16 home runs and 71 RBI.

New York Post's Jon Heyman made a list of potential suitors for Arenado on Bleacher Report. Among the candidates were the Boston Red Sox.

MLB Rumors: Red Sox Named Potential Suitors for Nolan Arenado

To make room for Arenado, the Red Sox would have to move players around. Bringing in any third baseman would mean that Rafael Devers has to move to first base full-time. Trading Triston Casas and moving Devers off third base would improve Boston's defense. That will almost certainly be an emphasis this offseason, making the interest in Arenado very understandable for chief baseball officer Craig Breslow.

However, one obstacle against a potential deal is Arenado's no-trade clause. Any trade agreed upon between the Cardinals and another team must be approved by the five-time Silver Slugger Award winner. Considering that the California native grew up a Dodgers fan, the reigning World Series champs may have a leg up over the rest of the league.
