The Boston Red Sox are still searching for infield help as the 2025 MLB spring training period begins.
Free-agent infielder Alex Bregman is one player the Red Sox have been targeting recently, but that pursuit hasn't gone as planned. MLB insider Bob Nightengale reported on Monday that Boston's unwillingness to meet Bregman's asking price has been a key roadblock in a potential signing.
Unless chief baseball officer Craig Breslow finally opens up the checkbooks, Bregman making his way to Boston seems unlikely. Having said that, the Red Sox seem to be eyeing another infielder in case they can't land the former two-time World Series Champion.
Red Sox Rumors: Could Justin Turner Return to Boston?
The Athletic's Patrick Mooney and Ken Rosenthal reported on Monday that the Red Sox have "expressed varying levels of interest" in a reunion with veteran third baseman/designated hitter Justin Turner.

Red Sox fans will remember Turner from when he spent the 2023 season in Beantown. That campaign was one of the most productive of the two-time MLB All-Star's career as he tallied 23 home runs, a career-high 96 RBIs, 51 walks, and a .276/.345/.455 slash line in 146 appearances (558 at-bats).
Turner declined his player options after the season ended, allowing him to sign with the Toronto Blue Jays last January. His stay north of the border only lasted six months before he was traded to the Seattle Mariners ahead of the deadline.
By the time the 2024 season ended, Turner finished his 16th MLB campaign with 11 HRs, 55 RBIs, and 59 walks while slashing .259/.354/.383 across 460 ABs. Even though it was far from the 40-year-old's most productive performance, Turner still showed that he has some juice left in the tank.
Nevertheless, the Red Sox can do much worse than Turner at this point in the offseason. If they can't land Bregman, they may as well reunite with a veteran infielder who they're not only familiar with but also boasts a right-handed bat that can help make a difference in Alex Cora's lineup.
Assuming he'd play to his full potential, Turner could play a big role in any success Boston sees in 2025. For now, the Red Sox will continue their spring training workouts holding the 11th-best World Series odds (+2700) on FanDuel Sportsbook.
