The Boston Red Sox have a critical offseason in front of them. This organization has failed to make the playoffs for three straight seasons, which is a fall from where it used to be. They actually missed the postseason in five of the last six years.

The last appearance came in 2021 when they were eliminated in the ALCS by the Houston Astros. The Red Sox had to watch as both the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles made the postseason last season.

Craig Breslow knows he needs to improve this team before Opening Day but it hasn't been smooth sailing thus far. Boston missed out on Teoscar Hernandez, who re-signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

They shifted their attention over to a couple of free-agent sluggers but the latest report doesn't bode well for Boston.

Red Sox News: Red Sox Expected to Miss on Another Slugger

Chris Cotillo wrote an article with 25 predictions for Boston in 2025. He made it clear that these are guesses at best but Cotillo thinks the Red Sox won't sign Alex Bregman.

He wrote, "Alex Bregman won’t sign with the Red Sox, who will add a right-handed bat before Opening Day. At this point, it seems like more smoke than fire with Bregman despite manager Alex Cora dreaming of potentially slotting him in at second base and beyond. The Tigers remain a real threat to sign the former Astro. If he goes elsewhere, the Red Sox will pivot when it comes to right-handed sluggers and put simply, they have to land one."

Back in December, MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reported that the Red Sox had interest in adding Bregman.

Bregman has spent his entire nine-year career with the Astros. His career slash line is .272/.366/.483. He's smacked 191 home runs along with 663 RBI. The 30-year-old is seeking to land a $200 million deal in free agency and that could be something that pushes Boston away.

The two-time All-Star is the exact kind of player that is needed. A reliable two-way force who would raise the ceiling of this team.

Regardless, the Red Sox must add another right-handed bat to their lineup. If they can't land Bregman, they need to find a way to get another All-Star caliber player into the building. It's not a want, it's a need.
