Red Sox Shockingly Make All-Star Slugger's Trade Wishlist
By Jovan Alford
After coming up short in the Juan Soto sweepstakes, the Boston Red Sox must look elsewhere to find that big bat to pair with Rafael Devers next season. Soto would’ve been a dream addition for the BoSox after seeing Tyler O’Neill sign with the Baltimore Orioles.
However, Boston has been connected to numerous sluggers such as Anthony Santander and Alex Bergman, who bring different skill sets to the plate. While those two hitters would be nice additions to the Red Sox’s lineup, one surprising name has emerged as a possibility for Boston – Nolan Arenado.
Last week, Jon Heyman of the New York Post listed the Red Sox as a potential suitor for the Red Sox, which was interesting given that Rafael Devers currently plays third base.
Now the Red Sox wouldn’t trade away Devers to St. Louis in a possible Arenado swap, as they would move Devers to first base and ship out Triston Casas. However, for any potential deal to happen with Arenado he would have to approve it as he has a no-trade clause.
Nonetheless, the All-Star third baseman is reportedly interested in the idea of playing at Fenway Park. According to John Denton of MLB.com, the 33-year-old infielder would be willing to accept a trade to the Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, or New York Mets.
The 10-time Gold Glove winner also has the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego Padres, and Los Angeles Angels on his wishlist.
Another interesting piece of news Denton reported is that Arenado and his agent, Joel Wolfe, told the Cards he’s willing to play other positions if it helps complete a trade to a World Series contender.
The 33-year-old third baseman is still owed $74 million over the last three seasons, which isn’t appealing given his offensive production in 2024. Arenado slashed .272/.325/.394 with 16 home runs and 71 RBIs last season.
The Red Sox or any other team thinking about trading for Arenado hopes his production this season was an aberration and not a sign of things to come. After seeing the New York Yankees and Baltimore Orioles make the postseason, Boston needs to make a couple of splash moves to compete in a competitive AL East.
