Shocking Jerod Mayo News Revealed Following Patriots’ Miserable Start
It's been a season of disaster for the New England Patriots. After starting the season with a win, the Pats have dropped six games in a row.
Things don't look to be turning around either, which isn't a good sign for Jerod Mayo. After the loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, Mayo was seemingly called out by Bill Belichick and former teammate Devin McCourty.
To make matters worse, it appears his job isn't guaranteed for next season either.
Patriots Rumors: Jerod Mayo May Not Make It to Year Two
Greg A. Bedard of the Boston Sports Journal was a guest of "Felger And Mazz" on 98.5 The Sports Hub, and he revealed that it isn't a lock Mayo will make it to next season.
"There were questions going on around the building about whether this was the right thing for the program. There was some second guessing….I don’t think Jerod Mayo is assured of a second season if this is a complete dumpster fire."
- Greg A. Bedard
To make things clear, Bedard said this was his opinion after talking to people. When certain things like things emerge, there's a reason for that. People want this information to get leaked.
Mayo was a bit of a surprise hire. Before landing the head coaching gig, he was an inside linebackers coach from 2019-2023. He's never had head coaching experience before this tenure, and it hasn't gone over well for him thus far.
With a young signal caller in Drake Maye on the roster, New England may feel compelled to land an offensive-minded coach to guide this rebuild.
Mayo was known for his ability to lead and take over the room. While those are terrific qualities, those things don't help you win football games.
For Mayo to guarantee his spot on the sideline in 2025, he'll need to get the Pats to turn up their play. If not, he could be looking for a new job.
