The New England Patriots put together an exciting undrafted free agent class, which features two FCS standouts in former Eastern Washington wide receiver Efton Chism III and UC-Davis running back Lan Larison.

The Patriots locked in both players after the draft, reportedly giving them significant guaranteed money ($259K for Chism and $175K for Larison). Both have an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster, but Chism III is already doing his part in OTAs.

Brian Hines of Pats Pulpit reported on Wednesday that the rookie wide receiver saw four targets in team drills from veteran Josh Dobbs and got open on all of them. However, Chism only had two catches, but still showcased his quickness.

This isn’t the first time that we've heard about Chism making plays at OTAs. Last week, Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald reported that the rookie was heavily involved and was an early standout in the slot. At last week's OTA practice, Hines also said Chism caught four passes, including three from Dobbs.

The 23-year-old wide receiver had a terrific five-year career at Eastern Washington, which concluded with an outstanding 2024 season. Chism posted 120 receptions (school record) for 1,311 yards and 13 touchdowns.

The former Eastern Washington star has the perfect size to play in the slot, along with the skills. He can make contested catches, has good short-area quickness, and has some experience with playing special teams in college.

Given that he’s an undrafted free agent and the Pats have a ton of receiver depth, special teams could be another avenue for Chism. That said, the fact that Chism is continuing to make plays at OTAs is a good sign heading into mandatory minicamp and eventually training camp.

It would not be surprising if the rookie wide receiver makes the team over more established names on this year as Mike Vrabel is establishing a new culture in New England.
