Boston Bruins Dominate Chicago Blackhawks in 6-2 Victory

Sunday afternoon the Boston Bruins took on the Chicago Blackhawks from the United Center in Chicago, looking to snap a five game losing streak. The Bruins not only defeated the Blackhawks Sunday afternoon, they did so in convincing fashion by scoring an impressive six goals as they defeated the Blackhawks 6-2.

The Bruins offense got started early thanks in part to a beautiful play by Brad Marchand, Reilly Smith, and Patrice Bergeron, the trio were able to move the puck deep into the Blackhawks zone and after a pass from Reilly Smith, it was Patrice Bergeron netting his 200th career goal.

After a penalty on Blackhawks Marian Hossa, the Bruins went on the power play and they were able to cash in and get an early 2-0 lead. Loui Eriksson was able to capture his 14th goal of the season, thanks to assists from Dougie Hamilton and Torey Krug. Just as the period was about to end Jonathan Toews was able to sneak a power play goal by Tuukka Rask to bring the Blackhawks within one.

Then the second period came and the Bruins offense really exploded. Milan Lucic, Gregory Campbell, Reilly Smith and Dougie Hamilton were all lightning up the lamp in the Windy City during the second period as the Bruins established a 6-1 lead. Bergeron was able to grab assists on Smith and Hamilton’s goal registering his 24th and 25th assist of the season.

The Blackhawks were able to get one goal back in the third period as the Bryan Bickell scored with about five minutes remaining, but that was far from enough as the Bruins went on to beat the Blackhawks 6-2 earning their 29th victory of the season.

After the game Coach Claude Julien spoke on the Bruins mentality entering the first intermission

"Today was about being confident and showing your confidence,” Boston coach Claude Julien. “We had a good first [period], but near the end our emotions started getting the better of us again and we had to settle our team down. That was the important part. Mentally we had to be strong and we had to stick with our game plan and not get rattled.”"

The Bruins next test will be another Stanley Cup rematch as they welcome the Vancouver Canucks to the TD Garden Tuesday night. That game can be seen on NESN or if you’re listening on the radio it can be heard on 98.5 The Sports Hub or in select WEEI markets.
