Boston Red Sox owner John Henry addressed the media ahead of Tuesday’s game against the Minnesota Twins and voiced his displeasure with the club’s performance thus far this season. Henry called the Red Sox play “painful” to watch. Starting pitcher Clay Buchholz certainly took note of what Henry had to say.

Buchholz tossed eight innings of shutout baseball, leading the Red Sox to a 1-0 victory over the Twins at Fenway Park. Rusney Castillo came through with a late-inning RBI to back Buchholz’s brilliance and snap a three-game losing streak.

“We haven’t played great. We haven’t played smart, and haven’t played the way we’re capable of playing,” said Henry while Buchholz and the Red Sox prepared to take the field for the opening game of a three-game set.

Buchholz was great and pitched to his full capability, striking out eight Twins to earn his third win of the season. Buchholz allowed just three hits, walked two, and lowered his ERA to 3.82.

In the seventh, Castillo notched his most noteworthy contribution since being called up from Pawtucket in May. With two outs and Xander Bogaerts in scoring position, Castillo connected on an RBI single off Twins starter Mike Pelfrey to put the Red Sox out in front 1-0. Pelfrey left the game following the inning.

Koji Uehara was called upon to close out the game and he was up for the challenge. Uehara sent the Twins down in order to earn his 11th save of the season.

Bogaerts led the Red Sox with two hits, including a double. Mike Napoli smacked a double as well. Hanley Ramirez, Pablo Sandoval and Sandy Leon were the lone starters not to record a hit.

The Red Sox improved to 23-29 on the season with the win.

The two sides will play a day-night doubleheader on Wednesday after Monday’s game was cancelled due to rain. Rick Porcello and rookie Eduardo Rodriguez will toe the rubber in the games.
