According to Jeff Passan, Red Sox third basemen Pablo Sandoval changed agents within the past few days and will now be represented by Beverly Hills Sports Council.

Bringing on Sandoval to the Beverly Hills Sports Council would make him one of the marquee clients that they already feature. The firm represents some of the biggest names in baseball such as Hunter Pence, Tim Lincecum, Dee Gordon and Salvador Perez.

This ends the relationship that Sandoval had with his brother Michael Sandoval as well as Gustavo Vazquez, whom helped negotiate Sandoval’s deal with the Red Sox in 2014.

Sandoval’s agency change does not really do much in terms of his status with the Red Sox, but it does intrigue me that his brother is no longer working with him professionally. Family ties could have become an issue this season with Pablo and maybe he’s starting to realize, at age 29 that he needs to commit to an agency as he prepares to enter the final half of his career.

Sandoval is entering his second season of a five-year contract worth $95 million dollars, and up until this past season had spent it all with the Giants. But with rumors of him possibly being shopped around, it’s not surprising that he went elsewhere for council in case he is moved.

I’m sure I’ll have some support when I say I hope Pablo gets traded sometime in the not so distant future, I just see his body breaking down very, very quickly. He’s 29 about to hit 30 and with his frame and the weight he already has on it can’t be good as he enters his 30s. The only prayer that new Red Sox General Manager Dave Dombrowski has in trading Sandoval is that he gets off to a hot start and that intrigues some teams to trade for him at the deadline.

From there I’d either see who’s out on the market and trade for a player, or let Brock Holt or Travis Shaw battle for the position. It would be too early to call up the Red Sox #2 overall prospect Rafael Devers and plug him in at third, but then again if Holt and Shaw can’t handle the workload you could see what Devers can do.
