After leaving the game in the second quarter due to a shoulder injury, New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will miss Thursday night’s matchup against the Houston Texans.

Third-string rookie quarterback Jacoby Brissett came in for the second half of the New England Patriots game against the Miami Dolphins, however, it’s probably not likely that Brissett will be the starter come Thursday night.

So who’s out there for New England?

It seems like the sky is falling with no Brady and no Garoppolo, but as a fanbase we tend to get a little nuts.  All the Patriots need to do is pick up a guy to keep them afloat for a game or two.

The Good

Matt Flynn: The former Aaron Rodgers backup, Flynn was with the Patriots during last training camp. He’s 31 years old and has only started a handful of times. However, Flynn has  been around and can definitely fill-in for at least a game.

Michael Vick: Vick wants one more go-around before he hangs up his cleats.  He was a backup for Pittsburgh last season, but missed a good chunk of time due to a hamstring injury.   At 36, he’s not what he used to be. However, the lefty QB is still a mobile threat and has the experience to keep the Pats afloat until TB12 gets back.

The Okay

Tarvaris Jackson: Jackson was a solid quarterback, but his years in Minnesota left much to be desired.  I always thought he underachieved, and his off-the-field issues are enough to keep me away.  He last played for Seattle in the 2015 season.

More from New England Patriots

Sean Renfree:  This one is the most interesting.  He’s only 26 and barely has any real NFL experience.   However, the  Patriots clearly saw something in Renfree interested them enough to bring him in for a workout over the summer.  It would seem a little strange to bring in someone who has barely any NFL experience, if I was Bill, I’d just stick with Brissett in that case.

Jimmy Clausen: The former Carolina Panthers second-round pick has only played in 22 games for his NFL career. He does however have brief experience as a starter within those handful of games. Clausen does have a nasty tendency to fumble snaps, and has had brush ups with team mates. (Steve Smith anyone?)

In all, a very tough decision

I have to say it was tough actually putting these quarterbacks into categories, given they’re all kind of ‘okay’ right now.  Just be happy Mark Sanchez isn’t on this list, would you guys really want him running the offense?

Debate it all you want, but I’m all for the Pats signing Vick.  He’s definitely the best in this bunch, I’d hand him the reigns for a game.  He had a bad year in Pittsburgh, but his mobility can really help out this O-line.

That’s only  a few of the available quarterbacks, but whoever the New England Patriots sign will end up being a guy who can pick up the playbook quickly and attempt to instill confidence in his offense that even without Brady and Garoppolo, they can get the job done.
