Boston Celtics forward Jordan Mickey is looking to break the rotation this season as he enters his second year in the NBA.

Brad Stevens and the Boston Celtics are loaded with young talent.  In fact, they have so much talent that some of those players are battling just to make the team.  Second-year forward Jordan Mickey is one of those players and is making the most of his opportunity.

Following a big game against the Charlotte Hornets, the 6-foot-8 forward bounced back with another impressive game Thursday night.  He scored six points on 3-for-6 shooting to go along with six rebounds in just 14 minutes on the court.  But it wasn’t the numbers that were important, it was the way he defended and contributed down the stretch of the game.

Mickey scored the winning basket of the game with a dunk.  The play was set up by a behind-the-back pass from Jaylen Brown in transition up the court.  Mickey’s ability to run the court and get in position to make the play has exemplified the way he has been playing in the preseason.

Stevens is definitely pleased with the second-year player’s progress.

"“Jordan’s had a pretty good couple of weeks, especially the last week,” Stevens told reporters following the win at Brooklyn via csnne.com. “We’ll see if that continues to play itself out. He puts in a lot of work.”"

Notes & quotes

Kelly OlynykAccording to Celtics.com, Celtics big man Kelly Olynyk has to wait to have his shoulder reevaluated.  Head coach Brad Stevens told reporters on Friday that the reason for the delay is because the doctor who performed the surgery has been unavailable.

"“Kelly has not been evaluated,” Stevens said. “His doctor was out of town. We hope to get that done sometime in the very, very near future, but it may not happen this weekend now.”"

Olynyk underwent surgery five months ago to repair his shooting surgery.  There is hope that they could return in the preseason to get some work in before the regular season begins.  Time is running out for that opportunity.

Terry Rozier:  The second-year guard did not practice Friday after suffering a hip pointer in Thursday night’s game against the Brooklyn Nets.  Rozier is expected to play Saturday when the team takes on the New York Knicks.  The Celtics guard is having a good preseason so far as he is inspiring to secure backup point guard duties.

Amir Johnson on his 3-point shot via WEEI:

"“Guys are starting to step out to that 3-pointer, and guys are definitely guarding outside the 3-point line, so it definitely changes in that aspect there. Every big man wants to step out and shoot the 3 and handle the ball, but now guys are working on it.”"

Danny Ainge on the possibility of a trade before the regular season via the Boston Globe:

"“My job is going to be very difficult.  Sometimes when you get in these situations, they work themselves out, but that certainly hasn’t been the case yet. The only clarity is that they’re all NBA players.”"
