Celtics guard Avery Bradley is very excited over rookie forward Jaylen Brown.  He believes he is a “perfect piece” for Boston.

Boston Celtics veteran players and coaches continue to praise rookie forward Jaylen Brown.  The 3rd overall player selected in the 2016 NBA draft, Brown has already cemented himself as the primary backup to small forward Jae Crowder.

Veteran guard Avery Bradley is impressed with the youngster and feels Brown is going to be very special.

"“I do know he’s going to be a very special player if he continues to work hard,” Bradley said via the Boston Globe. “I think he’s been playing well.”"

More from Boston Celtics

So far this preseason, the 19-year-old rookie is averaging 9.7 points and 2.8 assists in 22.7 minutes per game.  He has proven to be a quick learner and is already becoming a reliable player for coach Brad Stevens. It is the hard work and wiliness to learn that Bradley believes is the reason for his quick adjustment to the NBA.

"“He works hard and he asks questions,” continued Bradley.  “He’s here to learn and get better every single day, and I appreciate him for that, being a young guy that just has an open mind and wants to work hard, because that has to be your mind-set coming into a team like this with good players like we have. He’s going to be a perfect piece for us.”"

When asked why Brown is the perfect piece, Bradley pointed out his maturity level, confidence and the pure fact that he’s a “freak.”  And that is meant as a compliment for a player who still has a lot of growth a head of him.  It is actually scary how good this kid can be, especially if he continues working hard to get better.

Notes & quotes

Kelly Olynyk:  It appears that big man Kelly Olynyk will not be ready for the season-opener next week.  The team revealed on Monday that recent tests suggests that the fourth-year player is not ready to resume contact.

Olynyk underwent shoulder surgery in mid-May and it appeared that he was on tract to make it back for the first game of the season against the Brooklyn Nets on October 26.  But, it looks like he will have to wait a little longer to make his return to the court.

Demetrius Jackson: The rookie point guard is in the running for the final roster spot.  The second-round pick out of Notre Dame appears to be ahead of both James Young and R.J. Hunter.

So far this preseason, he has averaged 5.6 points and 2 assists.  He would be the third point guard on the depth list behind Isaiah Thomas and Terry Rozier.

Al Horford on Jaylen Brown via Boston Globe:

"“I always get excited when he gets in the game because I want to see what he’s going to do.  It seems like he’s always getting a highlight play. I bet that’s just a preview of what we’re going to see during the season.”"

Brad Stevens on Demetrius Jackson via Worcester telegram:

"“He’s improved quite a bit as a point guard.  He was always a really good athlete who could score the ball. But he’s really improved as a point guard in his time through the later stages of high school and at Notre Dame.”"
