Boston Celtics big man Al Horford didn’t disappoint in his regular-season debut with his new team.

One down, eighty-one to go.  The Boston Celtics opened the 2016-17 NBA season on a good note with a 122-117 victory over the Brooklyn Nets at TD Garden.  Newcomer Al Horford was solid in his debut displaying the versatility that has made him one of the top big men in the league.

It wasn’t a dominate performance, but Horford contributed 11 points while adding five rebounds, six assists and an impressive four blocks.  It was the type of all-around performance the Celtics were looking for when they signed the 30-year-old veteran.  It was also a good feeling for Horford to be able to display all his skills for the home crowd.

"“It felt great, man,” Horford said following the game via NESN. “It was a relief more than anything. Just happy to finally get out there and start the regular season.”"

Notes & quotes

Smooth offense:  The Celtics as a team displayed some excellent team basketball on the offensive side of the court.  In scoring the 127 points, Boston had 36 assists on 48 made baskets.  That type of offensive performance on a consistent basis will make the Celtics a very dangerous team if they are able to put it together on defense.

Isaiah Thomas:  The Celtics guard started off where he left off last season.  He scored a game high 25 points and dished out nine assists in the winning effort.  Thomas also contributed on the boards, grabbing six rebounds.  Boston outscored Brooklyn by 15 points during Thomas’ time on the court.

Jae Crowder on team nearly blowing fourth quarter lead via CSNNE.com:

"“We had checked out a little bit mentally and physically.  Our bodies were not warmed up enough to do what we did. But we got it done. We’re just going to learn from it and move on to Chicago.”"

Brad Stevens on Kelly Olynyk’ return via NESN:

"“Kelly went to the doctor yesterday, (who) gave him probably a more clear timeline.  He’s still probably a couple weeks away, but he’s doing 5-on-5, and it’s just a matter of ramping it up so that the next day, the fatigue is less and less.”"
