New England Patriots DE Trey Flowers is on a Mission
New England Patriots defensive end Trey Flowers has an opportunity to emerge as a star on defense.
Trey Flowers is on a mission and through his hard work he is well on his way to reaching his destination. The New England Patriots young defensive end is in his second year in the league and is proving that he could become the player to replace Chandler Jones as the team’s top pass rusher.
Over the last two weeks, Flowers has totaled 4 sacks and has pushed Jabaal Sheard further down the depth chart. The 2015 fourth-round pick has done it through hard work and determination. His progress from a rookie season in which he rarely played to a productive sophomore season has impressed his veteran teammates.

"“I love it,” Rob Ninkovich said via the Boston Herald. “This year, he came in all business and has really taken advantage of all of his opportunities. I’m happy he’s been able to do that.”"
The Arkansas product has been one of few players on the defense who has exhibited the passion the team seems to lack now. In a way, he has taken advantage of some lackluster play by those ahead of him and has blossomed into a bigger role on defense. Veteran defense end Chris Long echoed Ninkovich’s sentiments.
"“I’ve just been really impressed with, as a young guy, his day-to-day professionalism,” Long said. “He understands how to study. He understands how to practice. His versatility, his work ethic, all of those things, I think he’s going to be a really, really good player for a long time.”"

Flowers not only leads the team with his four sacks, he also leads the team with eight quarterback hits. His high-motor and instincts makes him a player to be excited about and one to watch as the season continues. But what makes him most intriguing is his desire to continue to improve each game and become the very best he can be.
"“I’ve still got a mission. I still want to continue to get better each and every day,” Flowers said. “I don’t want to set any statistical boundaries. As long as I’m on the field helping my team win, that’s the perfect goal.”"
If he keeps up his play from the past two games, Trey Flowers will help the Patriots win many games on defense and not just by outscoring opponents.
