Patriots’ Dion Lewis Compares 1st Game Back to ‘Riding a Bike’
New England Patriots running back Dion Lewis returned to the field on Sunday and looked kind of like his old self.
Dion Lewis still has a way to go before returning to the player he was before his torn ACL, but the New England Patriots running back still looked impressive in his 2016 debut.
Lewis was finally activated off the PUP list last weekend, but wasn’t active for the Sunday night classic against the Seattle Seahawks. With Rob Gronkowski and Chris Hogan ruled out for this past Sunday’s game, Lewis was active and utilized a bit more than expected in the team’s 30-17 road win over the San Francisco 49ers.

The Pittsburgh product was used in both the running game and the passing game. He had five carries for 23 yards and caught three passes for 26 yards. Impressively, he looked just as shifty and fast as he was before the injury that ended his season over a year ago. The mental part is where he will need time to improve which is kind of like…well…riding a bike.
"“It’s like riding a bike,” Lewis said after the game via Patriots.com. “I’ve been playing this game for a long time, so I’m just happy to be back out there with my teammates.“I was just thinking about going out there and trying to execute and make sure I make no mistakes. I never really sat down and thought, ‘This is my first game of the year.’ I was ready to go.”"
This wasn’t the first major injury Lewis had to deal with in his football career. He missed the entire 2013 season with a fractured fibula. That injury is what made him available for the Patriots to take a chance on. The ACL injury was a reminder of how quickly life can change in the NFL.
"“It was challenging, but it can make you or it could break you,” he said. “I’ve been through a lot worse stuff than this. I’ve been through a lot worse stuff than not being able to play and being hurt. The things I’ve been through in my life prepare me for this moment, and I always push through.”"
