New York Giants wide receiver Victor Cruz says the New England Patriots fear another Super Bowl showdown with his team.

Victor Cruz is calling out the New England Patriots.  The New York Giants wide receiver told the New York Daily News that the last team the Patriots would want to face in Super Bowl LI is his team.

While a Patriots-Giants third Super Bowl battle would be quite the story, any conversation about New England as a team fearing any other team is a bit much.  Cruz was part of one of those Giants victories so that pretty much explains his confidence in even mentioning the possibility.

More from New England Patriots

"“[The Patriots] don’t want to see us,” Cruz told the Daily News Tuesday.  “I’m sure if you ask them [they’d say] they’d play anybody, they don’t care.  I’m sure they don’t want to see us.  That’s for sure.”"

Cruz is partially correct in predicting the Patriots reaction.  But what Bill Belichick would add is that these are two completely different teams than the teams that battled in Super Bowls XLII and XLVI.  The Giants are also missing head coach Tom Coughlin.  Still, Cruz is excited about the possibility of a round three.

"“Oh man, you can’t even put it into words almost,” Cruz said. “For it to be round three, us and them in another epic Super Bowl showdown. It’d be for all the marbles. The third time is when, I mean they’ll have a lot riding on it, we will have a lot riding on it. It’ll just be one of those moments you [couldn’t] forget.”"

New England quarterback Tom Brady is one of the few players still remaining on the team from that first and second loss to the Giants.  His motivation to defeat Eli Manning in a third battle would spark to his motivation.  Also, Cruz’s calling out the Patriots as scared would surely become bulletin board material if both teams indeed get to the big dance.

As a Patriots fan, there is no taking away from Cruz’s proclamation about how exciting the game itself would be.  The teams always play each other with high intensity no matter the record or where they play.

"“I think just because of our history, no matter when or how we play them, no matter if it’s regular season, preseason, postseason, there’s an energy there. There’s a rivalry-style energy there,” Cruz added. “When you play a team twice in the Super Bowl, once when they were undefeated, the second when they were pretty darn good, we beat them both times and that’s going to live forever. But it’s definitely a rivalry.”"
