Patriots Gridiron News: Julian Edelman Expects to Play Season Finale
New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman is afraid to ask the coaching staff about playing time.
The Patriots have the AFC East and a first-round bye wrapped up, but there is still something to play for Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. With the No. 1 seed in the AFC on the line, don’t expect the team to rest its starters.
Julian Edelman certainly doesn’t expect to sit out the game. The wide receiver joined Ordway, Merloni & Fauria on Tuesday and said he is afraid to ask the coaches about playing time.

"“I’ve played here going on eight years and I have never had a conversation like that,” he said via WEEI. “You kind of come in here and do what you’re told and trust what they think is the right thing. You have to ask them that question and I’m too scared to ask them that question. I am just going to prepare and do everything I can to get my mind, my body, my emotions ready to go out and play in Miami against a really good football team that is playing well and go out and do what I can do to help the team win.”"
As an important member of the Patriots’ offense, especially without Rob Gronkowski, Edelman is a player who could benefit from the rest. Due to injury, the Patriots approached last year’s season-finale against the Dolphins with the intention of getting healthy for the playoffs. As a result, they lost an opportunity to wrap up the No. 1 seed.
Although not a revenge game according to Edelman, don’t expect that same approach this season.
"“Last year was last year,” Edelman said. “They play us well at home. It’s going to be a definite challenge for us to go out there and play against a team that is playing real well. It seems like they have a formula figured out. They’ve won a lot of ballgames. They are going to the playoffs. I don’t think there is any extra incentive to go out and try and beat them for anything that happened last year. We have to worry about what we have to do.”"
Arthur Brown: According to NESN, the Patriots took another look at former Ravens second-round pick Arthur Brown.
The 6-feet, 240-pound linebacker has a career 20 tackles in four seasons with the Ravens, Jacksonville Jaguars and New York Jets. He only has three tackles in 14 games this season.
This could be another of those high reward, low risk additions if the Patriots decided to bring him in as a depth player while the team rests Dont’a Hightower. He has the talent to be productive, but may just need the right situation.
The Patriots currently have Hightower, Rob Ninkovich, Shea McClellin, Kyle Van Noy, Elandon Roberts, Barkevious Mingo and Brandon King at the linebacker position. The team could decide to promote Trevor Bates from the practice squad if another body is needed.
