After Jae Crowder went off on Twitter about Boston Celtics fans, let’s compare him to the guy they were allegedly cheering for. Gordon Hayward.

It’s been a rumor ever since Brad Stevens became head coach of the Boston Celtics.  When will Gordon Hayward get here? After Jae Crowder’s rant on twitter last night, I think it’s time we took a look at both players’ and what they bring to the table.

Jae Crowder

Jae was seen as the ‘steal’ of the Rajon Rondo trade.  He’s developed nicely, and is averaging 13 points a game, two rebounds and five assists. He’s helped the Celtics go up against some of the most elite players in the east due to his defense.  Crowder’s next step is being consistent and hitting 20 points a game on a nightly basis.  He’s been a huge boost to this starting lineup, and has helped shaped the post-Pierce-KG era Celtics.

More from Boston Celtics

I think he’s overrated, but Gordon Hayward does put up points on a regular basis.  His averages this season?  22 points a game, four assists and six rebounds.  He’s only shooting 37% from the three-point line, but he’s the more consistent scorer out of the two.  A scoring boost isn’t the Celtics first priority, but what NBA team doesn’t want more scorers?

Conclusion

Hayward’s contract expires at the end of this season, and it’s been well known that the Celtics have interest.  Is he the superstar Danny Ainge wants?  No, because he’s not a superstar. He’s a great player, but who’s to say Jae Crowder can’t put up those numbers?  Crowder needs to consistently start putting up 20 a game, that’s the next step in his development.

Who’s the better defender?  Jae.  It’s not even something you have to think about.  Crowder is gritty and tough, a guy who definitely helps the C’s out when they go up against the East’s elite.

Can Hayward and Crowder work together and become teammates?  It’s possible, granted the C’s would be sacrificing A LOT of rebounding and defense.  That’s an entirely different topic, but the comparisons are laid out.
