Patriots Super Bowl LI News: Martellus Bennett Talks Playing Style
New England Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett was the star of NFL media week showing the character he is off the field.
On the field and typically off the field the New England Patriots are all business. While Martellus Bennett has adapted nicely to the Patriot way on the field, the versatile tight end continues to show his character when speaking to the media.
Combine the experience of his first Super Bowl with a return to his hometown of Houston, Texan and you get a player very excited and willing to talk about almost everything. From swearing to Roger Goodell to time travel, Martellus Bennett has captivated the media throughout the week. The question is, will he do it on the field in the most important game of his life.

As a pass-catching tight end who also blocks, Bennett took some time to talk about his playing style.
"“I think I’m pretty cool and a pretty good football player,” Bennett said via NESN. “I think my style of play is why people don’t bring me up when they talk about tight ends. Most times, I may have to block 49 times and then run eight routes. There’s other guys that never block. I’m like well that must be nice, but then I look at how they leave their teammates hanging. The running back is coming through the hole and getting crushed because the tight end didn’t want to stick his head in there. I think my style of play is not really that sexy.”"
It is that willingness to do the dirty work that has made Bennett a valuable tight end with the Patriots this season. Even with the loss of Rob Gronkowski, he still does whatever it takes to help his teammates succeed. It isn’t about the numbers or the sexiness, it is about doing his job and kicking some butt along the way.

"“I like to kick a–,” Bennett continued. “That’s my style of play. I’m not a fantasy player, man. You may draft me in fantasy football, you may be pissed off because one week he goes for 120 and the next he goes for 30 yards receiving. It’s just what I do.”"
All in all, the New England Patriots hope this Sunday will be a big statistical day for Bennett. With the Falcons youth, particularly in the secondary, a big pass-catching tight end like Martellus Bennett could have a big day. If the running game is successful, however, the Patriots tight end will be just as involved in blocking to open holes for his running backs.
