Patriots Gridiron News: Jimmy Garoppolo Draws Aaron Rodgers Comparison
New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will be the talk of the offseason. One current NFL quarterback is praising his potential.
When it comes to franchise quarterbacks, the New England Patriots are in the driver’s seat. They currently have the greatest quarterback of all time still playing at a high level. They also have a backup, in Jimmy Garoppolo, who most teams feel can lead their teams.
One of those teams is the Cleveland Browns who cleared up a roster spot last Monday with the release of veteran quarterback Josh McCown. Coincidentally, McCown quickly named Garoppolo as the quarterback he believed was a good fit in Cleveland.
"“I’ve seen him on tape because we had a common opponent in Miami,” McCown said via Clevland.com. “he made some high level throws and did some things that would get you excited about his ability to maybe carry a franchise. That’s definitely on the tape.”"
With that said, he would be a great quarterback to succeed Tom Brady, except the five-time Super Bowl champion is not planning a retirement tour anytime soon. That’s the reason for all the chatter surrounding a Garoppolo deal. Unlike Steve Young behind Joe Montana and Jimmy Rodgers behind Brett Farve, Garoppolo’s opportunity may not come with the team that drafted him.
Speaking of Rodgers, McCown found some similarities between Garoppolo and the Green Bay Packers quarterback.
"“I saw some things in Derek Carr early in the 2014 draft that reminded me of Aaron Rodgers and I thought ‘this guy is going to be pretty good,’” McCown said. “I see the same things when I watch Jimmy: quick release, strong arm, athletic. I’m not saying he’s Aaron Rodgers, but he’s got some traits in the same mold, and he’s got tremendous upside.”"
McCown went on to note the amount of experience Jimmy Garoppolo has gained playing behind Tom Brady as a reason the Browns should pursue the deal.

Marshall Faulk and his battle with Patriots fans
Hall-of-Fame running back Marshall Faulk won’t let the Spygate and Deflategate cheating allegations go. Faulk, who lost to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXVI, has been outspoken about his belief that the team illegally videotaped the then-St. Louis Rams before the big game.

Although he has given the Patriots their due, he continues to go back and forth with fans. Speaking to Deadspin, he talked about his feud with fans, recalling that he never said some of the stories fans have made up.
"“They fabricate stories to make it seem like I said something,” Faulk told Deadspin via NESN. “And I’ve said nothing but great things about Tom Brady. The fact that I acknowledged that he was suspended four games for deflating ball, which is true, and I said if you do that, then we can’t just let it go like, ‘Hey, that didn’t happen. ‘You might want to put an asterisk by something. No, it’s like you’re a cheater. I’m like, ‘No, that happened.’ Like Spygate, that happened. I’m not making this up. But it’s OK.”"
