Patriots’ Rob Gronkowski Hopes Martellus Bennett Gets Paid
New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski has formed a special bond with fellow tight end Martellus Bennett and wished him the best during free agency.
They formed one of the most feared tight end duos in the NFL last season. Unfortunately, due to injury, the Patriots combination of Rob Gronkowski and Martellus Bennett were only on the field together for about half of the 16 regular season games.
Now, with Bennett entering free agency, the 2016 season may be the only season the two playmakers will spend as teammates. Gronkowski was at the Daytona 500 this weekend and was asked about Bennett’s free agency and what he hoped for his teammate.

"“I’m hoping that he breaks the bank,” Gronkowski answered, via ESPN. “Whenever you see a tight end break the bank, it’s good for the industry, it’s good for the position. You want to see the position grow.”"
Playing under a team-friendly contract, Gronkowski could stand to benefit if Bennett does “break the bank.” The big tight end is signed through the end of the 2019 season, but could restructure his current contract with the Patriots or cash in himself if and when he hits free agency.
The downside for Gronkowski is that he has been hammered with injuries. Any team, including the New England Patriots, who commit the kind of money he might demand would be making a risky investment. Talent wise, Rob Gronkowski is certainly worth it.

As far as Martellus Bennett does, the imaginative tight end has made it known that he would love to stay in the Boston area, but also has made it known that he hopes to get paid. Whether the two find some kind of middle ground to make that happen remains to be seen.
In all, Gronkowski just wants to see his good friend happy.
"“I want to see him do whatever he’s got to do,” Gronkowski continued. “I don’t make the calls.”"
