The Boston Celtics have lost out to the Cleveland Cavaliers again.  This time for the services of Andrew Bogut.

Perhaps this is a case of things working out for the best.  As rumored, free-agent center Andrew Bogut has committed to signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday, but hasn’t ruled out the Boston Celtics as a future destination.

While the team could use him the remainder of this season, the Australian center was impressed by the Celtics and hopes the team still has interest in signing him when he hits free agency this summer. According to The Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach, the 12-year NBA veteran was impressed by both head coach Brad Stevens and Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge.

Dave Bauman, Bogut’s agent, expressed his client’s excitement about the prospects of wearing a Celtics’ uniform in the future.

"“I just want to stress how close it was, because Brad and Danny did a hell of a job with this thing,” Bauman told Himmelsbach via the Boston Globe.  “Andrew got to know Brad and Danny a little more in the process and was really impressed, so we’re excited for (the start of free agency) on July 1.”"

Once again, the Celtics are runner ups in a free agency situation.  Bogut decided to join a team already rich with talent instead of joining a team he would have had more a chance of making of an impact.

As far as signing with the Celtics for the 2017 season?  Andrew Bogut would be a nice veteran piece at the center position.  Hopefully the team will be looking for a younger option either in the free agent market, the draft or a player they already have stashed overseas, 2016 first-round pick Ante Zizic.
