The New England Patriots have been among the most active teams in free agency. That should continue and these five free agents should sign here.

The New England Patriots have made multiple trades and signed numerous players as the new league year has begun. They still have plenty of cap space available, about $39 million actually. With other moves, New England could actually add even more cap space. This would include restructuring deals for Danny Amendola and others.

With that cap space, the Patriots should look to make even more moves in free agency. They should look at these five remaining free agents to join the New England Patriots ranks.

The list includes players New England should re-sign, like Dont’a Hightower, as well as outside veterans who could look to win a ring with the Patriots ala Chris Long.

The Patriots have kept us on our toes all offseason, as you never know where they’re looking. Defense seems to be a focus and I expect that to continue. Depth will be key to another New England Patriots Super Bowl run.

Dont’a Hightower, MLB

The longer free agency goes on, the more confident I am that Dont’a Hightower will re-sign with the New England Patriots. It seems that the big time contract Hightower was looking for is simply not out there. The linebacker has said he would like to remain with the Patriots and I believe the two sides will work out a deal. Hightower is obviously aware of the defensive moves the Patriots have made this offseason, so he should be excited to play on this defense. mark my words, Dont’a Hightower will be a New England Patriots linebacker in 2017.

Eddie Lacy, RB

Eddie Lacy is recovering from injury and had an up and down career with the Green Bay Packers. he should be ready to go for a team’s training camp, though. Lacy is a bruiser, which is just the type of runner needed in New England to go along with Dion Lewis and James White. Fun fact, the running back also shares an agent with former Alabama Crimson Tide teammate linebacker Dont’a Hightower.

Connor Barwin, DE

Former Eagles defensive end Connor Barwin is the exact veteran-type that should sign in New England. The Patriots have already added Kony Ealy and Lawrence Guy after losing Jabaal Sheard and Chris Long, but depth is always needed. The eight-year veteran has spent time with the Texans and Eagles. Barwin plays in the same style as Chris Long, and if he’s looking for a win towards the end of his career, New England is where Barwin belongs.

LeGarrette Blount, RB

If the Patriots cannot sign Eddie Lacy, look for them to retain LeGarrette Blount. He had a tremendous season with New England in 2016 with a franchise record 18 touchdowns. Blount would remain the starter and power back for the Patriots.

Darius Butler, CB

The Patriots could add another Butler, reuniting with Darius. Butler would add depth, competing for the #3 CB role. He is also versatile enough to play safety for the Patriots if needed. A team-friendly deal could land a familiar face back in New England.
