New England Patriots WR Danny Amendola Agrees to Restructured Contract
The New England Patriots and wide receiver Danny Amendola reportedly agree to a restructured contract that will keep him in Foxboro.
On a day filled with roster moves, the New England Patriots have further stabilized their wide receiver depth by keeping veteran wide receiver Danny Amendola on the team.
According to ESPN’s Field Yates Tuesday, Amendola has reportedly taken yet another pay cut for 2017 to remain with the defending Super Bowl champions. This marks the second consecutive season in which the Texas Tech alum has restructured his contract to remain in Foxboro.
The move itself is not surprising considering the $6 million in base salary he was scheduled to make this year. That number was trimmed to $1.6 million with the restructured contract which is more his worth considering his age, injury history and the depth the team already has at the wide receiver position.
Amendola’s role on the 2017 roster
Whenever the team needed a big third down conversion or a big play in the playoffs, Danny Amendola seemed to always come through. His eight catches for 78 yards and a touchdown in Super Bowl LI was more evidence of that big play ability and his chemistry with Tom Brady.

On a team with Julian Edelman, newly-acquired deep threat Brandin Cooks, Chris Hogan and second-year receiver Malcolm Mitchell, Amendola gives the team a quality fourth receiver who can return kicks. That will be an important aspect on a team loaded with offensive playmakers.
Overall, this marks the third time Amendola has taken a pay cut to remain with the team. He originally signed a five-year deal worth up to $31 million back in 2013. Back then he was brought in as a replacement for former New England Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker.
Needless to say, Amendola never really lived up to that hyped, but found his niche with the team overtime. In 2015, he restricted to give back $2 million in cash and gave back $3.9 million in cash in 2016. Since joining the Patriots, Danny Amendola has been a major contributor in the team’s two Super Bowl championships.
