The Boston Red Sox head home after a sub par 6-game road trip to face a slumping Tampa Bay Rays squad.

After finishing 1st place in the AL East last season, the Red Sox slow start has some fans worried. After winning the 2013 World Series, Boston finished last place in the AL East the next two years. So after finishing 1st in the AL East in 2016, are the Red Sox doomed for mediocrity in 2017?

Not necessarily, Boston’s schedule in April was no joke and this team still isn’t 100%. David Price could return back to the starting rotation hopefully before the end of May, and with Steven Wright going to miss the regular season it comes just in time.

Boston is currently 18-16, 3rd in the AL East, 4.5 games back from 1st, and 9-9 against AL East teams this season thus far. Not the hottest start, but I think we can all agree it’s better to start off slow then finish slow. The Red Sox look to get back on track against the Rays, already 3-1 against them this season.

Boston is at a major advantage this series, not only because they are at home but because of the pitching match ups. Tampa’s best pitcher Chris Archer isn’t a projected starter for any of the three games. On the other hand, the Red Sox have arguably their three best pitchers taking the mound this series. Minus Eduardo Rodriquez who’s been improving great as of late.
