Boston Red Sox vs Texas Rangers: 3-game series prediction
By Riley Culler
GAME 1: May 23rd – Tuesday: Rangers @ Red Sox 7:10 PM (EST)
Probable Pitchers:
- Boston – (R) Rick Porcello (2-5) (4.23 ERA) (1.41 WHIP) (55.1 IP) (58 SO)
- Texas – (R) Andrew Cashner (1-3) (2.45 ERA) (1.34 WHIP) (40.1 IP) (19 SO)
Rick Porcello already has more losses this season (5) than he did all of last year (4). That may be due to the fact the Porcello isn’t getting nearly as much run support he did last year. While that hasn’t helped, he hasn’t helped himself either. Porcello’s ERA and WHIP are much higher than last years, but the season is early.

For the Rangers, Andrew Cashner is having a much better season than his previous. Despite having a 1-3 record, Cashner’s ERA is down from 5.25 to 2.45. Something that may fair well for Boston is Cashner has not pitched well on the road. Nothing drastic, but Cashner has allowed 6 earned runs in 3 road starts, compared to only allowing 5 earned runs in 4 home starts.
Prediction: Win
Texas comes in red hot, going 11-1 in their previous 12 games. That’s great and all, but teams cool off after a hot streak and hopefully Boston can take advantage of that. Porcello has had two horrible starts in a row, so he may be in store for a dominant performance. After two pitiful starts in April, Porcello had maybe his best start of the season with 0 earned runs and 5 strikeouts in 7 innings. I predict Porcello bounces back and leads Boston to a much needed win.
