Boston Celtics rookie Jaylen Brown has joined both Isaiah Thomas and Avery Bradley as players who have battled a hip injury this season.

Facing elimination Thursday night in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals, the Boston Celtics need as many players as possible available to extend the series to a Game 6.

Already without Isaiah Thomas, the Celtics may be without another key contributor when they face the Cleveland Cavaliers at TD Garden.  That player is rookie Jaylen Brown.

The team announced Wednesday that Brown is questionable for the Game 5 matchup due to a right hip pointer.  He is the third player to have battled a hip injury this season. Thomas has been shut down the rest of the playoffs after aggravating his hip injury and Bradly has played with and through hip pointers at various points of the season.

It is unclear as to when the injury occurred, but if Brown is not able to go it will be a blow for the team.  The rookie has been one of the bright spots on the floor at times and has played his share of minutes guarding LeBron James.

Through Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals, the talented swingman is averaging 4.9 points and 2.3 rebounds.  Not huge numbers, but as a rookie he has gained valuable playoff experience.

Jae Crowder probable

Jaylen Brown is not the only Celtics player banged up.  Forward Jae Crowder is also liming in to Game 5 with a groin injury.  He is listed as probable, but the injury did appear to affect his play during the second half of Game 4.

After a very effective first half, Crowder’s production slipped once the injury occurred.  While he is expected to play through the injury, it will still be monitored during the team’s shootaround Thursday morning.

Amir Johnson also expected to play

Like Crowder, big man Amir Johnson is also listed as probable for the crucial playoff game.

Johnson was sidelined during the first quarter of Game 3 with a shoulder injury.  As he did not play in Game 4, Johnson should be available in Game 5.  The team started Kelly Olynyk in his place and had to turn to center Tyler Zeller to play valuable minutes during the 112-99 loss.
