Boston Celtics draft prospects: Markelle Fultz wants to be the No. 1 pick
Unlike Lonzo Ball, top NBA prospect Markelle Fultz is not shying away from being the No. 1 pick overall and playing for the Boston Celtics.
Unless the Boston Celtics are blown away with a trade offer they can’t refuse, the team will more than likely select Markelle Fultz with the No. 1 pick in the 2017 NBA draft.
The 6-foot-4 guard out of Washington is highly touted among the best of the talented class of guards coming out of college. Furthermore, unlike fellow guard Lonzo Ball, he has not shown favoritism as to where he wants to play. That should make him even more attractive to Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge.
It was just a week ago that Ainge revealed that Ball turned down a chance to work out of the Celtics. Fultz, on the other hand, has been much warmer when it comes to the opportunity of playing for the Atlantic Division champions.

A Boston state of mind
In an interview with ESPN, Fultz said he has spoken to Ainge a few times and very much open to a visit.
"“I’ve talked to Danny a few times,” he said. “And they want to get me to come out there for a visit. They just want to get a chance to know me better as a person.”"
The top NBA prospect has met with the Boston Celtics prior to the draft combine. So the fact that the team wants to get a closer look is an indication they will use the pick on him. Although not etched in stone, Fultz is welcoming the opportunity to play in Boston and taken with the first pick.
"“I want to be the No. 1 pick really bad,” Fultz said. “It’s been a dream of mine since I was a little kid and I feel like I would fit well in Boston.”"
The talented guard could get the opportunity to play alongside a player he got to know when he was being recruited at Washington. All-Star point guard Isaiah Thomas played for the Huskies and has indicated a desire to share the Celtics backcourt with Fultz.

The fact that both players have expressed an openness to working together on the court definitely makes the selection easier on Ainge.
