Drew Pomeranz has found his groove in delivering another quality start for the Boston Red Sox in their 4-1 win over Chicago.

What a gem spun by Drew Pomeranz!  On Wednesday night, the Boston Red Sox lefty tossed 7 strong innings to lead his team to a 4-1 win over the Chicago White Sox.

It was the second consecutive strong performance by Pomeranz, who has been inconsistent since he came over to the Red Sox in a trade with the San Diego Padres.  Although much of that inconsistency has been due to injury, Pomeranz seems to have found some confidence on the mound.

He threw 108 pitches, which was the most he has thrown since joining the club.  Most importantly, he felt good with the performance.

"“It was kind of a continuation of the last one, to be honest,” Pomeranz said following the game, via the Boston Herald.  “I felt pretty good with four pitches out there.”"

With the return of David Price and the emergence of Eduardo Rodriguez, Pomeranz was considered the weak link in the Boston Red Sox rotation.  With the last two starts, he may turn a staff that now has a big four, to a staff with five strong starters.

This will especially be the case if Pomeranz can continue what he has been doing the last three starts.  Following the one run, eight strike out performance Wednesday night, he has a combined 2.12 ERA with 25 strikeouts in those three starts.

All about the mechanics

While confidence has been the key ingredient, mechanics are playing a huge role in Pomeranz’s success.

In delivering his best start since joining the team, Drew Pomeranz has fixed the delivery of his rejuvenated cutter.  That cutter, as well as a mixture of his arsenal of pitches, has resulted in more strikeouts and fewer walks over this stretch.

Again, this has added to his confidence and hopefully will lead to the consistency the Boston Red Sox have been looking for since they acquired him.

"“The last two starts are significant steps forward,” Red Sox manager John Farrell said, via The Providence Journal.  “He pitched a whale of a game tonight.”"

If Pomeranz delivers more performances like he did on Wednesday night, the Red Sox may have themselves another All-Star caliber pitcher on their hands.  He has done it before with the Padres, doing it in Boston will take him to another level.
