New England Patriots DL Lawrence Guy has versatility running through his veins
New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick loves versatile players and he has one in defensive lineman Lawrence Guy.
One of the more important offseason pickups may very well be Lawrence Guy. The versatile veteran defensive lineman will give the New England Patriots many options along the defensive line when he is on the field.
Whether it is nose tackle or defensive end in the 3-4 scheme, the 6-foot-4, 305-pound Guy can fit into various roles in Matt Patricia’s defense. His size and ability to take on different responsibilities is something that attracted the Patriots to him and also attracted him to the Patriots.
The fact that he is willing to do whatever the team asks is part of what landed him a four-year contract with the defending Super Bowl champions. He also adds depth and athleticism to a group led by Alan Branch, Malcom Brown, Trey Flowers and Kony Ealy.

"“I said, ‘I feel comfortable anywhere you put me at.’ It’s one of those situations with me as a player that I. … found that I needed to play different positions for me to be the best player I can be,” Guy said Wednesday at Gillette Stadium, via NESN. “Coming in this situation, wherever they need to put me at, I can go ahead and do it. I’m not a great corner. I’m a little bit heavy, but I’ll try it.”"
His willingness to do what the team needs him to do is very Patriots like. He is a player who has played for multiple teams, including the Baltimore Ravens, and has admired the New England Patriots from afar. Now he gets to be a part of an organization that celebrates the definition of team.
So far, Lawrence Guy is saying all the right things. How that translates to the field will depend on how well he grasps the system. As of right now, he seems to be a great fit.

"“I like to be on the field, so if they put me at a position they need me to work at, I’ll go out there and do it,” he continued. “The whole object is to be able to play multi positions on the field so you can be out there for the most time you can and how you help the team out. If you can only do one thing, you’re not really helping the team. If you can do multiple things, you can help the team a lot.”"

That’s exactly what Bill Belichick likes to hear. However, that won’t necessarily get him reps at cornerback.
