Red Sox place Eduardo Rodriguez on 10-day DL
By Tommy Butler
Boston Red Sox pitcher Eduardo Rodriguez has been placed on the 10-day DL due to a knee injury suffered before his start yesterday.
The Boston Red Sox pitching rotation has taken yet another hit. Eduardo Rodriguez will be out for at least 10 days.
What happened
Before E-Rod started last night’s game against the Orioles, he slipped and fell in the bullpen. He had told the press that his fall was just caused by his foot landing strangely while tossing warm up pitches.
In his start, Rodriguez pitched 5.2 innings, giving up seven runs on eight hits for the loss. Four of the eight hits he gave up were home runs. It was, by far his worst start of the season.

Many believed that he must have hurt himself in the fall. E-Rod denied that the fall caused any injury or had anything to do with his poor performance.
He believed that his problems during the game were entirely a result of missing locations combined with good hitting by the Orioles.
Today, Rodriguez experienced discomfort in his knee, leading the Red Sox organization to take action.
Impact
E-Rod has been one of the most consistent pitchers on the Red Sox this season, apart from Chris Sale of course. Before the game, he had a 2.77 ERA and had just pitched six scoreless innings against the Marlins.
His absence will re-open the rotation hole that the Red Sox had been struggling to fill in David Price‘s absence. At the moment the roster spot will be filled by relief pitcher Brandon Workman.
The biggest problem for the Red Sox and for E-Rod with this news is the location of the injury. Rodriguez has had knee problems before, missing time in 2016 and hurting it during the off-season.
Looking Forward
Because the news has just come out, nobody is sure about the timetable for E-Rod’s return. With Steven Wright likely out for the year and David Price getting back into the rotation yet another new pitcher will have to step into the 5th spot.
Brian Johnson is one possible candidate to take over E-Rod’s next scheduled start. Johnson pitched a complete game shutout in his last start and has since been with the Paw Sox.
