Why the Anthony Davis to Boston Celtics rumor is ridiculous

Ever since the Boston Celtics landed the No.1 overall selection in this year’s NBA Draft, rumors have been flying.  One specific rumor has caught my attention.

Anthony Davis to the Boston Celtics for a bunch of assets and draft picks?  Sounds nice doesn’t it?

The Celtics finally get their dominant big man, a young guy who has so much upside and is already insanely talented.  I think it’s time we put everything into perspective.

First of all, the New Orleans Pelicans just traded for DeMarcus Cousins a few months ago.  The idea is clearly to go with a Ralph Sampson-Hakeem Olajuwon type of scheme.  Whether it will work or not remains to be seen, but the idea that the Pelicans would just give up their young star without the season even beginning is ridiculous.

Second.  If you’re Danny Ainge, after finally having those Brooklyn Nets draft picks come to fruition, and seeing your future come into view, why would you trade away basically everything for one guy?  Everyone knows the plan.  Wait for LeBron James to age, and your young guys will take over.  The Boston Celtics would be set for a decade with the way Ainge is planning all of this out.  Why would you jeopardize that?  C’mon. Get your head out of the sand.  What Danny is doing requires patience, and it’s going to pay off.

Also, let’s not forget that Davis is quite injury prone.

I wouldn’t mortgage my whole future on a guy who probably can’t even stay healthy for a whole season, would you?  For instance, Davis has dealt with ankle, knee and even finger issues throughout his short NBA career.  All things considered, it’s still early in his career.

However, injuries to big guys are usually scarier.  I mean, they have so much weight on their legs, it’s tough for them to be 100% healthy for a full season.

Hey, I could be wrong.  He could find a way to stay healthy and continue his dominance.  I just don’t see a scenario where Danny Ainge mortgages his whole future for one guy.

The future is too important to this Boston Celtics organization, and trust me it’s going to be so worth the wait.
