Should the Boston Celtics consider a Jared Sullinger return?
The Boston Celtics need a rebounder off the bench, and they used to have one. Could they look to bring back Jared Sullinger?
When the Boston Celtics played the Bulls, Wizards, and Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference playoffs, the need for a rebounder was apparent. It’s a need the team will look to address this offseason and they could reunite with a familiar face.
Boston let Jared Sullinger go in free agency last summer, and he wound up with the Toronto Raptors. The C’s instead gave Tyler Zeller more money that Sully got up north.

Sullinger broke his foot in the preseason with the Raptors and ended up playing just 11 games for them. He was then traded to the Phoenix Suns before being released. Conditioning issues prevented Sullinger from signing with another team for the rest of the season.
The fact that Sullinger has struggled over the past year means that Boston could potentially get him for cheap. Many believe a veteran minimum could be what Sully will get as he looks to rekindle the flame and restart his career.
Sullinger could be a key role player in Boston if he buys into what his role would be. He can crash the glass and would be called on when boards are hard to come by.
In Boston, Sullinger averaged 11.1 points and 7.7 rebounds in 24.9 minutes played. He, of course, wouldn’t get as many minutes off the bench, but he clearly has the ability to track down rebounds.
