Boston Red Sox veteran Dustin Pedroia delivered a walk-off single in the 11th inning to surge his team past the Philadelphia Phillies at Fenway Park.

Just days after he was reactivated from the disabled list due to a wrist injury, Dustin Pedroia delivered his first walk-off RBI in 7 years.  The clutch single gave the Boston Red Sox a 6-5 victory over the Phillies.

In what was another long game at Fenway Park, Pedroia came up in the 11th inning with Deven Marrero on second base.  With two strikes, the feisty second baseman locked in to send teammates and fans victorious into the night.

"“With two strikes, you’re just trying to battle and hit the ball where it’s pitched,” Pedroia said after the game, via MLB.com.  “I was lucky enough to find a hole and go for the cutter again.”"

The big game-winning hit gave the Phillies their sixth straight loss on a night where they had the Red Sox on the ropes.

Boston starter Rick Porcello gave up 10 hits and five runs in six innings pitched, but was bailed out by the Red Sox bats.  With big offensive performances from young stars Mookie Betts (4-for-5 with three doubles and an RBI) and Andrew Benintendi (3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs), it was nice to see the veterans step up and deliver.

Pedroia walk-off hit was set up by a game-tying blast off the bat of Hanley Ramirez to send the game into extra innings.  And it was Pablo Sandoval’s leadoff single in the 11th that eventually scored the winning run.

As mentioned above, it was Dustin Pedroia’s first walk-off hit since June 19, 2010 against the Los Angeles Dodgers and just the second of his career.

"“Very surprising considering the number of games he’s played here and how good of a hitter he is,” Red Sox manager John Farrell said.  “I wouldn’t have known that given his career here in Boston.”"

Let’s hope the clutch hit triggers a hot bat from the man known as the laser show.
