Whatever the Boston Celtics do with the No. 3 pick overall, they will be adding a potential impact player.

High draft prospect Josh Jackson has a desire to be that player.  Despite not working out the team, the Kansas star feels that playing with last year’s No. 3 selection, Jaylen Brown, could turn into something very “special” for the Boston Celtics.

While the team appears like they are leaning towards Duke forward Jayson Tatum, Ainge is very unpredictable and may just select Jackson despite him not working out for the team.  The Celtics could also decide to move further down in the draft or trade the pick for a star.

The latter is very possible considering the New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls are very interested in Jackson.  Coincidentally, both of those teams are dangling their best players, Jimmy Butler and Kristaps Porzingis.

A willingness to play in Boston

As for Josh Jackson’s desire to play in Boston, or lack thereof, he hasn’t given much indication either way up until now.  He did talk about how great it would be to play on a team that made it to the Eastern Conference Finals.

"“I think it would be great to play in Boston,” Jackson said, via CBS Sports.  “I see a lot of the players on their team that are about the same things that I’m about.  Anybody who knows me knows that I love to win and I see that in a lot of guys on their team.  I would love to play in Boston.”"

Because the Celtics posted the best record in the East and have depth, it is believed that Jackson not working out for the team was more due to a lack of playing time.  Like Brown, Jackson will have to work for his playing time.  That could delay his development.

On the upside, Brown did get valuable minutes in the playoffs, which may just elevate his growth as an NBA player.

Jackson and Jaylen Brown too similar?

While Josh Jackson and Jaylen Brown have many of the same attributes, the Kansas product believes those similarities will make the a dynamic duo in a changing NBA atmosphere.

"“A lot of people talk about ‘they’re the same player’ or ‘they play the same position,’ but, I mean, playing with Jaylen would be pretty good, I think,” Jackson said.  “I think it would be pretty special.  Just because of how much the game is changing today.  When you look at two of the best teams in the league and they’re playing three small forwards at the same time, sometimes even four.  So I don’t really see how people would think two guys like me and Jaylen playing together would be any type of issue at all.”"

It would certainly be intriguing.  Both players are athletic freaks who are highly competitive.  Both also are potentially elite defenders and together could give the Boston Celtics something not many other teams have.

If Danny Ainge is building a team that will eventually compete with the Golden State Warriors, a team that can defend the perimeter game is not a bad route to follow.
