A few New England schools got their 2017-18 college hockey seasons underway this weekend. Here are all the scores, stats, and info you need as the season begins.

Boston University played the only real meaningful college hockey game in New England this weekend, but a number of other teams got some exhibition play in. Still, there were close games and exciting action on both Saturday and Sunday.

The Terriers got to battle a top-20 team, as they took on #16 Union on Saturday. They got to stay at home in Agganis Arena, like every other New England team this weekend.

BU came out on top 4-1 in the matchup, as they exploded for three goals in the third period. In the first, Boston University and Union played to a 1-1 tie, with the Terriers power play goal coming off Patrick Harper‘s stick.

The second period was scoreless but in the final frame, BU scored a powerplay goal from Dante Fabbro, a goal second from Harper, and the final score from Shane Bowers.

Harper ended the night three total points, as he assisted on Fabbro’s goal in the third. Brady Tkachuk also got in on the action with an assist on Bowers’ goal.

Also on Saturday, the Northeastern Huskies throttled Prince Edward Island 9-1 in an exhibition game. The #20 ranked Huskies were rolling all night long, and they’ll look to carry that play into their regular season.

If you watch just one game…

If you watch just one college hockey game next weekend, watch Friday’s #14 Quinnipiac and #13 Boston College matchup. It’s the first top-20 game of the weekend in New England, and the Conte Forum is a great place to catch a game. Grab yourself a ticket and head over to the BC campus on Friday night.

Next: New England owns college hockey

These teams are fairly evenly matched so it should be a battle. Quinnipiac also has to play Boston University this weekend, but that game may not be as close. The #2 Terriers are a superior team, so that’s why they don’t get the game of the week. Enjoy the start of the season New England college hockey fans.
