Boston Celtics: Terry Rozier emerging as a bench leader
When Terry Rozier was drafted No.16 overall by the Boston Celtics in the 2015 NBA Draft, fans were furious. Finally, Rozier is showing everyone what he can do.
Terry Rozier came into his own in the playoffs last year, really showing teams how prepared and ready he was for the next step. This season, Rozier has shined for the Boston Celtics off the bench. His average of almost 10 points per game and five rebounds doesn’t tell the whole story. Rozier skies for rebounds, and he’s become so much better at running the offense.
Marcus Smart and Terry Rozier off the bench have grown together and become a strong tandem. Both are strong defensively (although Smart is a more ferocious defender), but Rozier is a better scorer. They balance each other out, and since Marcus Smart has also become a better facilitator, Rozier is allowed to play off the ball as well. and since Marcus Smart has also become a better facilitator, Rozier is allowed to play off the ball at times.

I’m not really sure where Rozier’s ceiling is, although I feel like he’s very well suited for a backup role. I certainly believe he could be a starter on a team, but for the Celtics he’s the perfect backup. We as fans get worked up, and it’s easy to get excited when a guy plays well. However, if you look at Rozier’s growth guys, he’s taken such big steps to get to where he is. I applaud him for his hard work.
How many point guards are in this league?
Way too many. Let’s be real, most of them rotate teams or don’t even last the season. It speaks volumes the type of patience Danny Ainge and co. have had with all their draft picks, Rozier included. I mean, how easy would it have been to just trade Rozier away for a pick or another piece?
Sticking with him has been a good move for the franchise. He could still be traded, but his development under Brad Stevens has been great.
