Rumors are swirling once again about the Boston Celtics trying to acquire Anthony Davis.

Here we are again. The rumors have returned about the Boston Celtics trying to acquire the New Orleans Pelicans big man.

There is no doubt that Anthony Davis is a phenomenal player. After his rookie year Davis has been averaging at least 20 points and 10 rebounds. Davis would be a great post presence for the Celtics who have struggled with rebounding at times.

With all that being said the Celtics don’t need to trade for him.

I don’t care who it is for I’m not getting rid of Jayson Tatum. He is having a superb rookie season. His athleticism and three-point shooting ability are something that wasn’t talked about before the draft. He has proven to be able to shoot the ball well consistently. He is near the top 25 in the league with a field goal percentage north of 50% and he leads the league in three-point percentage.

Also, this team is still without their 2nd best player. Gordon Hayward is going to be apart of this team next season. Look at the success the Celtics are having so far this season. They are 26-7 and have continued to stay at 1st place in the Eastern Conference.

This isn’t a knock against Davis but the Celtics don’t need him.

Al Horford has continued to be an efficient player. He is averaging 14.3 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game. When other players have struggled Horford has been able to lift up this team.

What it will take to get Anthony Davis

If you are looking to get Davis you are going to have to give up either Jaylen Brown, Tatum, or possibly both. That is something that you can’t be comfortable with. Brown so far is averaging 14.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. Brown has proven this season that he has taken the next step in his career. Especially early on in the season when he was carrying the team alongside Kyrie Irving. You can not give up on these young players to trade for Davis.

There is also another situation that may prevent the Celtics from going through with a trade for Davis. Danny Ainge is scouting a 12th grader, R.J. Barrett. Apparently this guy is the best prospect to ever come out of Canada according to Hoops Mag writer Josh Eberley. Just take a look for yourself.

He is going to play for Duke in college and is widely viewed as the best prospect in his recruiting class. Barrett is 6’6″ and is a really versatile player. Barrett was named MVP at the 2017 FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup. He averaged 21.6 points, 8.3 rebounds and 4.6 assists in the tourney. Also against the United States, Barrett dropped 38 points.

If Ainge is really interested in Barrett it may prevent him from wanting to give away the pick that the Celtics have from the Memphis Grizzlies.
