The Boston Bruins made yet another move as the trade deadline inches closer.

Look at Don Sweeney. The Boston Bruins GM is wheeling and dealing and made a great move right here. The Bruins traded Frank Vatrano to the Florida Panthers in exchange for a 2018 third round draft pick.

Vatrano was struggling this season. He had only appeared in 25 games this season and only scored two goals and has a rating of -3. This season Vatrano was at the bottom of the Bruins depth chart and seemed to not fit in with this Bruins roster.

Vatrano has a great shot, but it appears his early success may have been a fluke. Last season was the best season of his career scoring 10 goals and 8 assists. Vatrano hasn’t played for the Bruins since February 6th and he only was on the ice for just under five minutes. There was no way Vatrano was seeing the ice especially with the recent success of the Bruins fourth line.

No reason to complain

Boston Bruins fans should be happy about this trade. Sweeney got rid of a player who is having a poor season, was at the bottom of the depth chart, and got a third-round pick out of it.  It isn’t a bad pick either as the Panthers are only one point ahead of the New York Rangers for the 11th spot in the Eastern Conference. If the Panthers start to struggle that pick will just get better and better.

No matter where the draft pick ends up being it looks like the Bruins are the winners of the trade. A third round pick is really good for a player who essentially wasn’t playing. It seems like the Bruins may be preparing to make another move or what seems more inevitable, the arrival of Ryan Donato.
