The New England Patriots need to start planning for life without Tom Brady. Mason Rudolph could become a suitable replacement.

The New England Patriots have made some big moves this offseason. They all show how the organization is planning for the future rather than going all in for one year of success. The Patriots have a ton of draft picks this year especially after the Brandin Cooks trade.

Now sadly Tom Brady is not immortal. He will have to retire at some point. When that time comes Mason Rudolph could be a great replacement for the G.O.A.T. In the latest mock draft by CBS Sports, the Patriots won’t be trading any picks and will be patient, eventually taking Rudolph with the 31st pick.

Your prototypical Quarterback

Rudolph is what you imagine when you think of a quarterback. He is 6’5″ and a great pocket passer. In his Senior year he threw for 4,904 yards to break a record at Oklahoma State. He holds over 50 records at the school. Rudolph is probably the best quarterback to ever come out of Oklahoma State.

Ben Volin from the Boston Globe had a lot of good things to say about Rudolph.

"“They have some flexibility to move around. I think they’re realistically looking at the teens and the second tier of quarterbacks. I’ve got my eye on Mason Rudolph,” Volin explained. “I’ve heard some people say they like him the best of any of the quarterbacks in the draft. He’s a big kid, a pro style type of kid. Just the type who can sit for a year or two and learn from Belichick. So that’s who I’ve got my eye on.”"

Like Violin says with a few years studying under Brady and Belichick, Rudolph could be ready to take the reins from Brady. I think that the smart move for the Patriots would be taking Rudolph. He fits the system and works great in the pocket similar to Brady. He is a great leader and fits the culture that New England prides itself on.

The draft is a little more than two weeks away. This will be an interesting draft to watch because I expect the Patriots to make some big moves, and that includes drafting the eventual replacement for Tom Brady.
