The Boston Bruins experiment with Rick Nash was a failure. If they are looking for a big body on the 2nd line, Wayne Simmonds would be a great fit.

The Boston Bruins have plenty of assets in their system. The B’s have a boatload of young talent and with a decent amount of free agents, I think the Bruins will be making some moves.

NBC Sports Boston Joe Haggerty thinks that it may be a long shot, but with Simmonds coming off an okay season, maybe the Bruins could woo Philadelphia Flyers GM Ron Hextall.

Simmonds only had 24 goals and 22 assists this year. It was one of his worst as a Flyer. The Bruins could definitely use that scoring cause Simmonds would have been the 4th best scorer on the team.

More from Chowder and Champions

Simmonds is a great player. He is a great scorer but also can demolish guys. Simmonds even fought Kevan Miller early in the regular season. Having Simmonds and Brad Marchand on the same roster would cause a lot of teams to be aggravated. They are both some grade A agitators.

Simmonds had his best season in 2015-2016. He scored 32 goals and 28 assists. Those are numbers that would fit in perfectly on the Bruins 2nd line. Just imagine David Krejci, the finesse player at center having these hard-hitting wingers by his side. It would be a perfect match.

What would it cost?

Again the Bruins would have to really impress the Flyers with their offer. Haggerty suggests giving up Anders Bjork, David Backes, and a 2nd round pick.  I am fine giving up those players since Backes is coming off a rough postseason, and the Bruins have plenty of young talent. Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson could step up and fill Bjork’s spot on the roster.

Another trade asset is Adam McQuaid. “Quaider” was injured for most of the season and didn’t help out the Bruins in the d-zone. McQuaid has great hustle and heart, but that’s all he brings. If the Bruins can use McQuaid to bring Simmonds here I am all for it.

Next: Charlie McAvoy is the real deal

Wayne Simmonds is a great player and having him on the Bruins roster would increase the team tenfold.
