Following a long stint on the disabled list and a suspension for his domestic abuse arrest, Boston Red Sox pitcher Steven Wright will get a spot start on Tuesday.

Life is about twists and turns and Boston Red Sox pitcher Steven Wright is on a very curvy road when it comes to his baseball career. In a way it has mirrored his knuckleball.

Following a very long stint on the disabled list and serving a 15-game suspension due to his domestic abuse arrest, Wright will return to the Red Sox starting rotation for a spot start on Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers.  This follows his current stint as a relief pitcher for the team.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora made the announcement prior to Sunday night’s game in a move meant to give the rotation some much needed rest.

"“We’re going to push everybody back,” Cora said, via WEEI.  “I do feel this is a time of year that, if I’m feeling it I know they’re feeling it.  With the traveling, all those day games last week.  I don’t know what time we’re going to get in tomorrow to Boston, so I think it makes sense to give him that start.  I think it’s good for him and also I think pushing everybody back is going to be beneficial for us in the long run.”"

Although it is just a temporary insertion back into the starting rotation, Wright has an opportunity to prove his value to the team, both as a relief man and spot starter.  The 2016 All Star pitcher could become a fixture in the rotation if Drew Pomeranz continues to struggle or an injury occurs to one of the other starters.

Pitch well and he’ll have an opportunity to continue to make things right in Boston.

The status of J.D. Martinez

The Boston Red Sox received a slight scare in the team’s 9-3 win over the Houston Astros on Sunday night.

Slugger J.D. Martinez left the game at Minute Maid Park due to back spasms.  Not to worry said Alex Cora following the game because the spasms weren’t severe enough to affect Martinez’s playing time.

In fact, because the Red Sox had a sizable lead when J.D. experienced the spasms, Cora decided it was a good time to give him a little rest.

"“I told him ‘Hey, man, we’re up four.  We’ve got the best closer in the game.  If we can’t shut it down up four without you, we don’t deserve to win the game,” Cora said, via MassLive.com.  “He was OK with it.  And Sam (Travis), he put a good at-bat(up). That was good to see.”"
