 100 mph of electric heat

Chris Sale was simply pumped up for this game.

With all the drama he experienced with the Chicago White Sox, facing his former team had a lot of meaning.  It’s just too bad his offense didn’t show up.

More from Chowder and Champions

On Friday night, the left-handed pitcher showed off some powerful arm strength reaching 100.3 mph on a pitch to strike out White Sox batter Daniel Palka.  It was the fastest pitch he has ever thrown as a starter.

So, what contributed to the increased velocity?

Following the game, Chris Sale attributed it to the extra rest he got with Red Sox manager Alex Cora turning to a six-man rotation this week.  Also, he was just upset at himself for the last two starts and took revenge on the mound.

"“Give me two extra days, I hope and think that I can get like that every time,” Sale said.  “I had a couple extra work days this week, so I was able to get an extended bullpen in and work on some stuff, get back to what I needed to do.  Added rest doesn’t hurt anybody.”"

Staring at Chicago White Sox uniforms standing at the plate had to factor in as well.  Imagine how much higher his velocity would’ve been if they wore those ugly uniforms he cut up during his time in Chicago.
