Mookie is on his way back

Well, another positive to take from Sunday is the progress Mookie Betts is making.

More from Chowder and Champions

The Boston Red Sox miss his bat in the lineup for obvious reasons.  As a leadoff hitter, he often sets the tone by getting on base or hitting a homer. Simply put, his offensive performance this season has been contagious and the sooner they can get him back the better.

After sitting out the last several games due to a left abdominal strain, Betts showed some progress during a stint in the batting cage prior to Sunday’s loss.  The amount of comfort he displayed is a positive sign that he will be back in the lineup very soon.

"“He hit and it was good today and he was driving the ball and he still has stuff to do,” Red Sox manager Alex Cora said, via the Boston Herald.  “We are going to take a pregame where he goes through his whole routine and he is actually going to hit off the machine during the game and see how he reacts to it.”"

Mookie Betts will be with the team during their 10-game road trip.  If things continue to progress, he could see some live game action in Pawtucket before returning to the team possible by the end of the trip.

This offense surely needs him.
