Celtics stand pat

Again, the Boston Celtics don’t need to do anything, which makes Thursday night so intriguing.

More from Chowder and Champions

As constituted, the Celtics are probably the best team in the Eastern Conference so Danny Ainge can stick with the No. 27 pick in hopes of finding a player who can complement what they already have.

One intriguing player is Duke’s Grayon Allen.  A knockdown shooter who will do the little things it takes to win games would fit in nicely with the Celtics.  That is, if he can shake his reputation for being a dirty basketball player.

Then again, it is those kind of players teams like playing for them rather than against them.  Depending on what happens with Marcus Smart this offseason, the Celtics may be in need of a backcourt player off the bench who can knock down shots and defend.

In that same respect, keep an eye on a player such as Villanova’s Donte DiVincenzo.

As far as big men go, the team has taken a look at Michigan big man Mo Wagner and high school player Mitchell Robinson is an intriguing option.  The big man averaged 25.7 points and 12.6 rebounds in high school, but hasn’t played competitive basketball since 2016-17.

With the No. 27 selection, the Boston Celtics could take a shot at Robinson and give him the chance to develop into something special.
