Boston Bruins: Jarome Iginla hanging up his skates for good
By Sam Minton
After a long career, former Boston Bruins winger Jarome Iginla has retired. The 22 year veteran will go down as one of the best players to never win a Stanley Cup.
Jarome Arthur-Leigh Adekunle Tig Junior Elvis Iginla will never play in the NHL again. On July 30th Jarome Iginla will return to Calgary and retire as a member of the Calgary Flames. Iginla had a cup of coffee with the Boston Bruins near the end of his career as he was desperately trying to win a Stanley Cup. Sadly the legend was unable to attain the common goal of all hockey players.
Iginla spent 16 years in Calgary. He was the face of the franchise but sadly was never apart of a legitimate Stanley Cup contender. As Iginla aged, he knew that he would have to leave Calgary if he wanted to win.
The Boston Bruins and the Pittsburgh Penguins competed for the goal scorer, and Iginla ended up going to the Penguins. In a wonderful turn of events, the Bruins defeated the Penguins in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Bruins ended up losing in the Stanley Cup finals, but Iginla realized that he could win in Boston. So he signed with the Bruins the following season.

Iginla was fantastic with the Bruins. Working alongside David Krejci and Milan Lucic, Iginla had 30 goals and 31 assists. Those are pretty great numbers for anyone, but when you realize Iginla was 36 you see how great of a player he was.
Iginla continued to perform in the playoffs. He racked up 5 goals and 2 assists. Unfortunately, the Bruins were eliminated in the 2nd round of the playoffs by the Montreal Canadiens.
An absolute legend
Iginla was an amazing goal scorer. In his 22 year career, he scored 625 goals and 675 assists. His 625 career goals has him ranked 15th in NHL history.
There is no doubt that Iginla will be a hall of famer. He will be remembered in Calgary forever.
It is sad that Iginla never got to lift the cup. He is now the Dan Marino of hockey. It is the only stain on an otherwise perfect career.
Iginla left his mark in Boston and the NHL. He will be seated among the greats in Toronto soon enough.
