Time to pay attention to Andrew Benintendi

While everyone is rightfully paying attention to the offensive seasons J.D. Martinez and Mookie Betts are having, time to give some love to Andrew Benintendi, who is putting together a solid season himself.

On Wednesday night, Benintendi was in the middle of the scoring once again.  With a pair of doubles and two walks, the sophomore outfielder is showing a persistence at the plate that makes the Boston Red Sox offense even more dangerous.

Due to where he is batting in the order, getting on base ahead of a player like Martinez is just as important as driving in runs himself.  But, don’t get it twisted, Benintendi is holding his own when it comes to opportunities to drive in runs in big spots.  We saw that with his 10th-inning game winning hit in the finale of that four-game steamrolling of the New York Yankees.

However, batting after the greatness of leadoff hitter Mookie Betts and ahead of Mitch Moreland and Martinez, finding ways to get on base has become his niche this season.  It’s great to see from another young star on the rise.

With 14 homers and 67 RBI on the season, Andrew Benintendi has settled into that No. 2 spot in the batting order just nicely.
