After a rough start to the season, Andrew Benintendi is tearing the cover off the ball for the Boston Red Sox.

Andrew Benintendi started the season off fresh. He cut his trademark locks and was coming off his first full season with the Boston Red Sox. He was looking to evolve and show that he is one of the league’s best outfielders.

Benintendi’s season didn’t start that great. He was coming off of a terrific spring training. In 17 games he had 4 home runs and seemed to be seeing the ball with crystal clear vision. Then the regular season started and Benintendi turned into Stevie Wonder. On April 26, Benintendi had a sub-par average of .218, but when the calendar turned to May, “Benny Biceps” became one of the Sox’s best hitters.

In May, Benintendi hit 6 home runs for 23 RBIs and boasted a .349 avg. Benintendi also had a stupendous 1.044 OPS and .833 slugging percentage. His success doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon.

More from Chowder and Champions

In his last 7 games, Benintendi has 3 home runs, 8 RBIs, and .379 batting average. Benintendi and the Red Sox faced a big test over the weekend with a 4 game series against the defending World Series champion Houston Astros. The Sox ended up splitting the series and Benintendi was smashing.

Benintendi hit two bombs in the last two games of the series and had 5 hits overall. Benintendi is atop a good chunk of the AL leaderboards. He is 5th in RBI and cracks the top 10 for slugging percentage and OPS.

Benintendi is apart of one of the best outfields in baseball. He is seeing the ball better than ever and is making a pretty compelling all-star campaign. He sure is living up to the name “Benny Biceps”

If Benintendi can continue his hot streak through June and the 2nd half of the season you can pencil in the Boston Red Sox for AL East champs.
