Coming off a strong rookie season, defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr. looks to have an “eruptive” second season in the NFL with the New England Patriots.

More from Chowder and Champions

Put in a position to contribute quicker than he was expected due to injuries last season, Arkansas product recorded five sacks and was second on the team in quarterback hits with 19.  With his unique size and athleticism along with the experience he gained during his rookie season, Wise is destined to break out in his second season in the NFL.

One of the main reasons he should build on his first season success is the hard work he puts in the game.  Along with fellow pass rusher Derek Rivers, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick praised the two young defensive ends for preparation and dedication to getting better on the field.

"“Nobody works harder than those two guys,” Belichick said, as transcribed by NESN.  “Nobody.  It’s hard to find a time that they’re not in this building.  They work extremely hard on the field, off the field, their training, preparation, conditioning – you name it.  They’ve kept that pace since they got here, and they’ve certainly sustained it in this year.  They’ve made a lot of improvement, and they both have upside ahead of them.  They work very hard.”"

Another reason to look out for Deatrich Wise Jr. this upcoming season is the fact that he will have less pressure on him.  With the signing of Adrian Clayborn and the return of Rivers, Wise won’t have as much weight on his shoulders, which should free him up to be the disruptive force he promises to be.
