New England Patriots: How the Jeremy Hill injury affects the team
By Sam Minton
Jeremy Hill’s New England Patriots career is over before it even started. The running back tore his ACL in Week 1 and leaves the Patriots with some problems at the position.
Not everything was great for the New England Patriots in Week 1. Even though they came away with the victory they suffered a big loss. Jeremy Hill tore his ACL and will be out for the rest of the season.
Hill was the power back that the Patriots could use. All of the other running backs are speed backs. The Patriots lack a guy they can rely on in the red zone.
I think Hill would have had a solid season in New England. I think he could have been like LeGarrette Blount and pound the ball down the defenses throat. Now we can only imagine what Hill would have been like.

Now the Patriots are weak at some of the most important parts of their roster. We all know the struggles at wide receiver and now at running back. The Patriots now have only 3 “healthy” backs. That’s counting Sony Michel who didn’t even play in Week 1.
Now that Hill is out, Rex Burkhead and James White will have to pick up the slack. I expect Burkhead to get a lot more carries. He is coming off a solid Week 1 performance, so I think he will be looked upon to carry the burden.
The Patriots also do have another option if Michel isn’t healthy enough for Week 2. Ralph Webb is on the practice squad and I would love to see him get a chance to show what he can do.
Webb had a great preseason and it was kind of stunning when he got cut. You expected him to return to New England but he could have gotten picked up.
This also adds to Tom Brady’s plate. He continues to get more and more obstacles. Now Brady has even fewer options. He will have to be perfect if the Patriots want to have a good season.
Also, the loss of Hill adds to the defense’s problems. Now the defense needs to continue to play great. The offense and its lack of weapons will need to be saved a few times by the defense this season.
Hopefully, the New England Patriots don’t get bit by the injury bug, because if they do things could get rough for New England.
